Beaufort Minors sponsored by Melvin of Carsons Daybreak played Annascaul/Lispole in the semi-final of the County League on Friday evening last. Conditions were very poor with wind and rain and underfoot conditions were poor due to surface water. Annascaul/Lispole player Dara Brosnan suffered a serious injury in the 2nd half when he slipped and got a nasty fall when he kicked a side line ball. We wish him a speedy recovery. The game began with a few goalmouth incidences with perhaps Annascaul/Lispole having a claim to a penalty and Beaufort having a goal chance. The 1st score came from a point from play from Conor Cronin on 7 minutes. Then on 13, 14 and 15 minutes were points from the opposition-2 from play and one from a point. Captain Danny Healy had a good point after winning back a ball lost in possession and he was at the end of the move to score a point from play. Beaufort had a goal chance when Danny Healy put a lovely ball through to Brendan Cronin, Brendan flicked the ball over the goalkeeper but it went wide. They had another goal chance but conditions led to Darragh Coffey unable to control the ball and the chance went abegging. The visitors had 3 points before the hard working Danny Healy had a shot deflected to the net to level matters. Beaufort had another goal chance but Darragh Coffey had his shot saved on 28 minutes. Beaufort had another goal chance before Conor Cronin had a point to level matters at the break. Beaufort 1-4 Annascaul/Lispole 0-7. Beaufort began with 2 points, one, a quick free to Danny Healy who scored a point and a point also from Ryan Sweeney. Darragh Curran was re-introduced at the start of the 2nd half in goals and he had 2 fine saves leading to a 45. Mike Breen defended well on 29 minutes. Beaufort were holding on galliantly to a 2 point lead but Annascaul/Lispole were pressing for a goal. With time almost up a high ball broke in the fullback line and a shot through players ended in the net which had Annascaul/Lispole lead by a oint for the 1st time in the game. With time up they had another point from play to leave the final score Beaufort 1-8 to Annascaul/Lispole 1-10.
