Beaufort Minors sponsored by Melvin of Carsons Daybreak got their Eastern Region League campaign off to a good start when they beat Kilcummin in Beaufort on Thursday evening. Final score Beaufort 3-14 Kilcummin 3-8.
The game was played at 13-a-side as both teams were short players but this lead to a very open game. The teams were evenly matched in the first half which resulted in the score being level at half-time 1-5 each. The goals cames from Matt Keane for Kilcummin and Niall O’Connor for the home side. Beaufort’s keeper Cian O’Sullivan made a great save from Matt Keane to keep the scores level in the 1st half.
The 2nd half was a high scoring affair but the home team dominated proceedings around the middle of the field with Sean Kelliher and Brendan Cronin in particular driving forward. Beauforts 2nd goal 5 minutes into the half came from a mazey run by Brendan Cronin-his effort for a point came off the upright and Paudie Coffey was on hand to finish to the net. 2 points from Danny Healy and a free from Niall O’Connor had Beaufort pushing ahead 2-8 to 1-5. Kilcummin then dominated the game for a spell of 12 minutes but found it hard to break down the solid Beaufort defence. but could only get through for a pointed free from Matt Keane and a point from centre back Jake Moynihan to cut the gap. Beaufort hit back with a fine point from the hard working Danny Healy. Niall O’Connor and Eoghan Kenneally exchanged points before Matt Keane, Kilcummins most dangerours foward scored a fine goal on 21 minutes. This seemed to get the home team moving again and they responded with a great move that involved Aaron Foley and Danny Healy who set Brendan Cronin up for a fine goal. Wing back Declan Floyd, Brendan Cronin, Danny Healy did great work to put Aaron Foley through for a point. Aaron Foley they turned provider for centre-back Mike Breen to score a point. Danny Healy brought a fine save from Kilcummin’s keeper Conor Teahan before a Paudie Coffey point and a free from Niall O’Connor pushed Beaufort further ahead. Matt Keane had the final score for Kilcummin with another fine goal which gave Beaufort’s sub goalie Darragh Curran no chance. Matt Keane ended up with a personal tally of 3-4. Beaufort had the final say when wing back Declan Floyd soloed through for a point to leave the final score Beaufort 3-14 to Kilcummin 3-8. Overall Beauforts defence stood up well with Mike Breen the pick of the defence, as mentioned Beaufort dominated mid-field and upfront Danny Healy and Aaron Foley caused problems for Kilcummin while subs Paudie Coffey and Luke Sweeney played well. Kilcummin were best served by Brian Moynihan and Jake Moynihan in defence, Paudie O’Connor tried hard in the middle of the field while top scorer Matt Keane and Eoin Kenneally were always dangerous on the ball.
