Beaufort v Skellig Rangers in Round 2 of Division 3 County League

Beaufort sponsored by Maurice Foley of MF Decorating hosted Skellig Rangers in blustery conditions on Saturday evening. The home side began well and had 2 goals inside 10 minutes. The first from Liam Carey after good work by Francis Courtney saw his shot dip under the cross-bar while the second came from a Danny Healy penalty after a good run by Nathan Breen who laid the ball off to Kevin O’Brien, he rounded his player and was fouled. Kevin O’Brien dropped a free short after Padraig O’Sullivan was fouled. They had 3 more points from Niall O’Connor who was set up by Nathan Breen, Shane O’Sullivan and Fergal Hallissey combined for the latter to score and Liam Carey finished a good move by Beaufort before Skellig Rangers had their first score-a free from Alan Devane. Skellig Rangers had their bit of luck when a short kick-out by the home side was lost to full-forward Martin O’Sullivan, Mike Moriarty made a fine save but the rebound hit off the unlucky James O’Reilly and ended up in the net. Beaufort responded well. Liam Carey intercepted a kick-out to score a point and a long free from Fergal Hallissey dropped in the square and after a few attempts Kevin O’Brien was on hand to finish to the net. Mid-fielder Anthony O’Driscoll had a fine point from play and this was followed by a free from the accurate Alan Devane. Beaufort finished the half the stronger with a point from Padraig O’Sullivan after Shane O’Sullivan defended well. Sean Fogarty made one of his dashing solo runs from wing-back and laid off to Niall O’Connor when perhaps he should have scored himself with the ball saved for a 45. Fergal Hallissey judged the blustery wind well and scored. Half-time score: Beaufort 3-6 Skellig Rangers 1-3. The 2nd half was a very low scoring affair with both sides guilty of dropping balls short and bad wides. Beaufort will be very disappointed with the amount of wides they had and though playing with the wind dropped some short. They also had a tendancy to hold onto the ball too long when the opportunity of a quick pass was there. 16 minutes lapsed before Shane O’Sullivan began and finished a point for Beaufort. Danny Healy had a penalty saved by Padraig O’Sullivan when Kevin O’Brien was again brought down in the penaty area. The second and last point came from play from Ronan Murphy. On the day the home defence was well on top with Ger Hartnett again dominant at full-back while up front Kevin O’Brien and Danny Healy won a lot of ball. Skellig Rangers were best served by Sean Crowley at centre-back, Brian Hickey at mid-field and Alan Devane at wing-forward. Both sides ran a full compliment of subs and the game was well reffed by Cathal O’Dubhda.

Beaufort U-16s v Glenflesk in East Region Division 1

U16s Our U16s sponsored by The Killarney Credit Union were at home to Glenflesk in the East Region League on Sunday last. They lined out without their outstanding player Luke Sweeney who picked up a serious knee injury last week-end. We wish him a speedy recovery. They began well and after the first score from Ciaran Kennedy and Paudie Coffey contributing handsomely scoring points at will especially in the 2nd half the result of the game was never in doubt. Paudie had the first goal when the impressive Padraig Cronin set it up and this was followed quickly with another goal from Ciaran Kennedy. Half-time Beaufort 2-10 Glenflesk 0-5. Beaufort dominated the 2nd half again in most positions as can be seen from the score-line. Jason Hallissey had the goal in the 2nd half and Ian McGillicuddy finished the scoring with a fine point. Our Seniors sponsored by Maurice Foley of MF Decorating travelled to Beale to take on the home team in the First Round of the County League Division 3 on Sunday last. Beale were promoted from Division 4 along with Na Gaeil and Beaufort last year and are also North Kerry Champions. Both sides took some time to settle into this game and had missed chances. The first score came from a Beale free after goalkeeper Mike Moriarty was deemed to have held on too long in the goals. Beale missed a god goal chance which was a let off. Beaufort defended well but kicked away possession which resulted in Beale’s 2nd point. Beaufort had a good passage of play when they had their first gal from Kevin O’Brien who was on had to finish to the net. This was followed by a Francis Courtney free after Sean Fogarty was fouled. Kevin had his 2nd goal when he finished well. Padraig O’Sullivan had a fine point when set up by Shane O’Sullivan. They also had a 45 but the resultant kick from Fergal Hallissey came off the upright. Good defensive play by James O’Reilly set Liam Carey off on a mazy solo run and finished to the net. Beale finished the half the stronger with 3 points-one of which was a 45 after Mike Moriarty made a fine save. Half-time Beale 0-6 Beaufort 3-2. Inside the first 10 minutes Beale kicked 3 points to Beaufort’s point from Francis Courtney. Kevin O’Brien had a free after he was fouled while Liam Carey had a goal chance but shot wide. Ger Hartnett who was outstanding throughout made a fine block to cut out a goal chance for Beale. Beaufort lifted the siege and had a point from play from sub Darragh Coffey. Beale had a point when the ball was turned over. A good ball from Fergal Hallissey gave Francis Courtney the chance to set Kevin O’Brien up for the final score. Final score: Beale 0-10 Beaufort 3-6. It was great to see 12 subs togged out by Beaufort. Hope this continues. Their next game in the County League is at home on Saturday evening next at 5pm against Skellig Rangers and will play Glenbeigh/Glencar in the Mid-Kerry League on Easter Saturday in Glenbeigh at 6pm.
