Beaufort v Brosna Round 9 Division 3 County League

Beaufort Seniors sponsored by Maurice Foley of MF Decorating kept up their push for promotion on Sunday with a 0-12 to 0-8 win over Brosna in Beaufort. The game began in perfect conditions and Beaufort had the first score when pressure by the forwards paid off and Padraig Doona scored a point. This was followed by a 45 on 3 minutes from Fergal Hallissey for the home side after Darragh Coffey’s attempt was blocked. Padraig Doona had his 2nd point from play. Brosna’s first score from a free on 5 minutes. Beaufort had the first goal chance when Nathan Breen sent Francis Courtney through but he shot wide. Brosna had the next score from a free. Both teams had 2 wides each inside first quarter. Nathan Breen fielded kick out and was fouled, took free to Padraig Doona who again was fouled and Fergal Hallissey scored the resultant free to lead 0-4 to 0-2. Again Brosna scored another free . Darragh Coffey was next of the score-sheet with a fine point from play and this was followed with a point from centre-back Brendan Cronin after good work by Micheal O’Sullivan. Another great score from Beaufort came from Darragh Coffey after good patient work in particular by Nathan Breen and Padraig O’Sullivan. Beaufort were defending well and held Brosna scoreless from play in the first half. Half-time score: Beaufort 0-7 Brosna 0-3.

Brosna’s first score from play came at the start on the 2nd half and this was followed with a Brosna free to leave 2 points between the teams. A foul on Brendan Cronin was punished by Fergal Hallissey to stretch the lead again for the home side. Both sides were guilty of wides before a side line ball on 16 minutes found Padraig Doona and he scored a point from play. Brosna had a free. Padraig O’Sullivan was fouled and Fergal Hallissey pointed and after good work by Padraig Doona he was fouled and Fergal Hallissey pointed another free. Danny Healy and Darragh Coffey combined for a great point to stretch the home lead. Brosna brought out the best from Beaufort’s keeper Mike Moriarty who saved a goalbound shot which went over the bar. Fergal Hallissey was backcarded and replaced by Padraig Hallissey with 8 minutes remaining. Brosna were pushing for a goal and when a break from defence was finished with a fine point by sub Niall O’Connor the 2 valuable points were secured by Beaufort to consolidate their position at the top of the table. Final score: Beaufort 0-12 Brosna 0-8. The home side looked the fresher team and played well as a unit. Their half-back line was outstanding and they also won the mid-field battle while up front Padraig O’Sullivan worked hard and won some great breaks around the middle while inside Darragh Coffey and Padraig Doona took their scores well. Brosna were reliant on the free-taking for their scores. The game was well refereed by Cathal O’Dubhda.

U12 Beaufort (Blue) 5 – 6 Vs Glenbeigh/Glencar 5 – 16

Beaufort (Amber) team & Glenbeigh/Glencar came together for another epic battle on Friday evening. Both teams got off to a solid start with Brendie O’Donoghue getting 2 early goals and Simon Coffey popping some nice points over the bar. However, Beaufort (Amber) were down by 5 points at half time. Half-time scores Beaufort (Amber) 2 – 4 to Glenbeigh/Glencar 2 – 9. Beaufort started out strong in second half and went ahead by 5 points early on in second half. This did not quieten the other side and they came back strong with some great team work. Sean O’Sullivan scored 2 classy goals and Jack O’Brien who played in goals stopped at least 4 balls finding the back of the net. Both teams were level at 23 points each with about 5 mins to go, unfortunately Glenbeigh/Glencar proved too elusive and popped 2 more points over the bar to seal the deal. Final Score Beaufort (Amber) 5 – 8 to Glenbeigh/Glencar 4 – 13.

The Beaufort (Blue) team on the other side of the pitch had a very lively game against Glenbeigh/Glencar. Unfortunately numbers were low on the other team for Beaufort as they only had 6 players. Half-time score was Beaufort (Blue) 4 – 2 to Glenbeigh/Glencar 5 – 9. Full-time score Beaufort (Blue) 5 – 6 Vs Glenbeigh/Glencar 5 – 16.

The U12s also played Laune Rangers in Beaufort but were beaten as they were short some players. Well done to the lads for effort.

Beaufort v Ardfert in Division 3 County League

Beaufort hosted Ardfert in a back game of the Division 3 County League on Saturday evening. Beaufort had the first 2 points both from mid-fielder Ronan Murphy and they also had a goal chance but Kevin O’Brien’s shot came off the unpright and went wide. Ardfert responded with a free. Ardfert had a goal chance also but his shot well saved by Mike Moriarty. Shane O’Sullivan cut out a dangerous attack by Ardfert, the resultant attack ended with a Darragh Coffey point. Ardfert had 3 points to lead by 2. Beaufort had a point from Francis Courtney from play after good work by Ronan Murphy and Danny Healy had a point to level matters again. Kevin O’Brien put Beaufort back in front when he was at the end of 2 good moves by Beaufort. Ardfert had 2 points to level matters again. They went back in the lead again when a long free was left bounce in the square and over the bar. Darragh Coffey was fouled at the other end and Francis Courtney levelled matters going in at half-time. Half-time score Beaufort 0-8 Ardfert 0-8

Ardfert began the 2nd half well and had 3 unanswered pointsto go 3 ahead. Beauforts wing-back Shane O’Sullivan joined the attack and had a fine score but this was cancelled out by Ardfert and had 2 more to stretch the lead to 5 points. Kevin O’Brien had a point when Darragh Coffey was fouled. An Ardfert goal chance blazed the ball over the bar to lead by 5 again. Sub Conor Breen was at the end of good Beaufort play and they added another to leave a goal between them. Ronan Murphy cut the lead to 2 and Shane O’Sullivan again joined the attack to leave the minimum between the team. A free into the box was fisted over by Ardfert. Beaufort had a free again from Kevin O’Brien but time ran out with Ardfert winning by a point. Best for Beaufort was Ger Hartnett at full-back, Shane O’Sullivan and Dany Healy worked hard while Ardfert were best served by Rory Horgan, John Dowlding, Kevin Shanahan, John Egan and their player of the match David Griffin.
