Beaufort Seniors sponsored by Maurice Foley of MF Decorating played Glenbeigh/Glencar in the Junior Football Championship Semi-final in JP O’ Sullivan Park, Killorglin on Saturday evening. Both teams have had a good league campaign with Division 1 side Glenbeigh/Glencar favourites many considered that this could be a tight encounter with Beaufort having secured promotion to Division 2. It was Beaufort that started the better racing into a 0-05 to 0-01 lead with points from lively corner-forward Darragh Coffey (2) and 3 from Kevin O’Brien, 2 points were from frees. (Beaufort were not to score from play after this score by O’Brien on 4 minutes) Glenbeigh/Glencar had cut the lead to 2 points by the 18th minute before Beaufort had another pointed free from Kevin O’Brien. On 23 minutes Mike Moriarty brough off a fine save before Glenbeigh-Glencar had their 4th point. Though Beaufort had a lot of possession they were not converting and were relying on the accurate free-taking of Kevin O’Brien. Glenbeigh/Glencar had two late point to only be behind by one at the halftime whistle 0-7 to 0 0-6.
Two points in the 2nd and 3rd minutes of the half put Glenbeigh/Glencar ahead. On 6 minutes the game was level again with a Fergal Hallissey 45. Glenbeigh/Glencar then took over and raced into a 6 point lead between the 10th and 16th minutes. Beaufort had another 3 frees from the boot of Kevin O’Brien while Glenbeigh/Glencar saw out the game with 4 more scores to see them comfortably into the Junior final after a shaky start.

Well done to Beaufort’s Under 15s who won the mid Kerry Supertouch competition in Milltown on Thursday. In the semi-final they faced a well prepared Cromane team who took the lead early in the game, however points from Jack O Connor and an excellent goal by Ciaran O Sullivan saw Beaufort lead by a point at halftime. An improved second half display helped by a great goal from John O Connelll saw Beaufort through to the final. Beaufort got off to the worst possible start in the final against Milltown /Castlemaine, when an unfortunate collision resulted in both Eoin O Hagan and Liam Curran having to be substituted. Jack Sweeney kicked two good points from long range to open the scoring and with Ian McGillycuddy outstanding in defence, Beaufort lead 0-6 to 0-3 at halftime. Further points and a brilliant goal from Shane O Sullivan Rouse saw Beaufort win 1-11 to 1-6.They now have qualified for the county final which will be played in Tralee on Thursday 22nd October.Panel Sean Coffey Ian McGillycuddy Ciaran O Sullivan Jack Coffey Shane O Sullivan Rouse Liam Curran William Joy Eoin O Hagan Jack Sweeney John O Connell Tim Coffey Jack O Connor.
Beaufort U16s sponsored by The Killarney Credit Union played Laune Rangers in the Mid Kerry Final after a purple patch midway through the second half put them into an 11 point lead that proved just about enough to claim victory. Laune Rangers started well and were three points ahead after six minutes. Beaufort settled into the game and Padraig Coffey (2, 1 free) & Eoin O’Hagan pointed for them, but 3 points had Rangers in the lead by 0-6 to 0-3 on the quarter mark. Beaufort reduced the gap to the minimum with two well taken points through Ciarán Kennedy (free) & Padraig Cronin. The gap remained into the late stages of the half as points were traded twice. Rangers & Padraig Coffey exchanged frees before Ciarán Kennedy cancelled out another Rangers point. There was time in the half for more action though as two Padraig Coffey frees not alone tied up the game, but gave Beaufort their first lead of the game on the short whistle. The score at Half Time:- Laune Rangers 0-8, Beaufort 0-9.
Beaufort carried their flurry before the whistle into the second half & with the first play after throw in, a long pass into the square caused a defensive mix-up & Padraig Coffey tapped the ball into the net. Laune Rangers settled down again though, and persistant pressure on the Beaufort defense brought with it a number of fouls and resulting frees. The game was again tied up by the 40th minute when 4 frees put the score at 0-13 to 1-10. A glittering seven minute spell followed for Rangers as they scored 3 goals and a few points in succession to put them in command.
Laune Rangers were now ahead by eleven points (3-15 to 1-10) with 8 minutes left on the clock, & not many people would have argued that Rangers had the win secured. Nobody told this to Beaufort however, and a non-stop onslaught of the Rangers goal ensued. The following five minutes saw the advantage almost wiped out, as goals from Padraig Cronin and Padraig Coffey were added to by points from Jonathan Kissane (free), Jason Coffey & Dylan O’Sullivan to reduce the gap to just two points. There was nearly two minutes of injury time played when Rangers slotted a free to put three between them, but there was time for one more Beaufort attack. Beaufort won a free 20 metres out from goal, and the Laune Rangers defensive was packed in front of goal. The Ciarán Kennedy effort towards the net was deflected over the bar and the referee’s whistle sounded to give Laune Rangers the victory and Mid Kerry title. Full Time score: Laune Rangers 3-16, Beaufort 3-14.
